New House

So, my dad bought a new house last week. A very old house. Owned by an old woman who lived there alone. A paranoid old woman, I suspect. She had apparently nailed most of the windows shut, hid cameras in the AC vents, and had motion sensors installed at all the windows.

Aside from all the cameras, this house is pretty awesome. It has a circular drive, for one thing.



House came with the original blueprints. Apparently it was a custom built home. I think I will have them framed.

Needless to say, padre doesn't sleep in the master bedroom.

...so windy that we needed jackets. This jacket came with a small boy inside.

Bike lanes now on Steck!

Last week, crews were at work re-paving Steck Avenue - the street that I both work and live on. From my office window, I watched them mill, place, and roll hotmix. Lane by lane. It was quite a nice to be reminded of my TxDOT days when I used to inspect and direct such activities. This week, I was surprised by the most lovely of gifts -- they re-striped the former four-lane undivided road into a three lane road with continuous left-turn lane and... the best part... bicycle lanes!! I noticed them striping yesterday, but wasn't able to snap a photo until this afternoon. Thank you City of Austin!
